Since 2005 the Centre for Media History at Aberystwyth has organised regular biennial media history conferences, normally held at Gregynog Hall (the University of Wales Study Centre), Powys, Wales, in association with the Department of Media and Communications at the University of Swansea and the journal Media History.

2012 Conference: Perception, Reception

The next Abersytwyth Centre for Media History conference will be held at Aberystwyth 4-6 July 2012 on the theme, ‘Perception, reception: the role of the media in society’.  It will be held in association with Swansea University and the Trinity College Dublin Long Room Hub. 2011 Conference: Broadcasting in the 1950s

In 20011 the Centre was very pleased to co-sponsor the conference ‘Broadcasting in the 1950s’, in association with the AHRC Research Network on Broadcasting History, held at Gregynog 20-22 July 2011

2010  Symposium on Historiography

In July 2010 the Centre for Media History sponsored a one-day symposium on the historiography of the mass media, in association with Media History, at Kings College London.  A special issue of Media History based on the symposium proceedings will be published in 2012.

2009 Conference: IAMHIST 2009: The Media, Social Fears and Moral Panics

In July 2009 the Centre for Media History was delighted to host the XXII IAMHIST (International Association of Media and History) Conference, in association with the third Gregynog Media History conference, at Aberystwyth University, on the theme, ‘The Media, Social Fears and Moral Panics.’  An edited collection of papers from the conference, Moral Panics, Social Fears and the Media: Historical Perspectives, eds Sian Nicholas and Tom O’Malley, will be published by Routledge in 2012.

2007 Conference: The Media and Time

The second Gregynog Media History conference, ‘The Media and Time’, was held at Gregynog, 28-30 March 2007.  A selection of papers from the conference was published in a special issue of Media History in 2010.

2005 Conference: Media History and History in the Media

The inaugural Gregynog Media History conference, ‘Media History and History in the Media’, was held at Gregynog 31 March – 1 April 2005.

A selection of papers from the conference was published as a special double issue of Media History in 2007 and as an edited collection, Reconstructing the Past: History in the Mass Media 1890-2005, eds Sian Nicholas, Tom O’Malley and Kevin Williams, published by Routledge, in 2008.
